Department of Biotechnology

Mission

Creation of the skilled biotechnologist to help the society to cope up with the new challenges and nurturing the human resource for national and global needs.

Vision

Install ideas amongst the budding youths for the benefits of students, rural and industrial fraternity in the eras of biotechnology.

Goal

The department aims at strengthening the basic knowledge of students which shall act as foundation stone in making the future of students. and enculcate research temperament in students with quality education using modern means of teaching and learning via student teacher interaction.

Programme

The department, established in 2000, offers undergraduate courses in biotechnology. In 2011, postgraduate studies (M.Sc. Biotechnology) were initiated to develop research aptitude and strengthen students' knowledge. The department's research areas include Industrial Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Enzyme Biotechnology, Fungal Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics.

Research Areas

The thrust areas of research are Industrial Biotechnology,Nanotechnology, Enzyme Biotechnology, Fungal Biotechnology, Molecular Biology , Bioinformatics,Plant Pathology,Phytochemical analysis and therapeutic potential of Some Indian medicinal Plants.

Department of Biotechnology in association with Central Research Laboratory sponsored by CURIE (Consolidation of University Research for Innovation & Excellence) core Research grant for women PG Colleges,DST, New Delhi  from April 2022 to till date has one laboratory for UG and a separate laboratory for PG , having all the required Instruments and facilities available for smooth conduction of Research activities, Trainings, Workshops and Studies for students. The Lab is equipped with High Internet facility along with Computer facility available for Students and Research scholars. Also, established with a Smart Lecture/Class room, having all the Modern facilities for conduction of Guest Lectures, Expert talks, Presentations and Discussions.

(Subjects: agriculture, animal husbandry, sanitation, and malnutrition) and active participation of students is appreciated ongoing supervision of each student by their mentors and mentees, as well as the preparation of corresponding registers for their viewings.

Prof J Chandrashekhar from IITDM Jabalpur visted department on 26 th Aug 2022 and its role in Biotechnology with the faculty members on Artificial Intelligence. The faculty members of the department of Biotechnology Dr Sonal Pathak, Dr Shyamji Shukla and Mr Bhaskar Pradhan attended the discussion. The details were provided by Dr Chandrashekhar on machine learning and its exploitation in biotechnology.
