Creation of the skilled biotechnologist to help the society to cope up with the new challenges and nurturing the human resource for national and global needs.
Vision
Install ideas amongst the budding youths for the benefits of students, rural and industrial fraternity in the eras of biotechnology.
Goal
The department aims at strengthening the basic knowledge of students which shall act as foundation stone in making the future of students. and enculcate research temperament in students with quality education using modern means of teaching and learning via student teacher interaction.
Programme
The department, established in 2000, offers undergraduate courses in biotechnology. In 2011, postgraduate studies (M.Sc. Biotechnology) were initiated to develop research aptitude and strengthen students' knowledge. The department's research areas include Industrial Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Enzyme Biotechnology, Fungal Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, and Bioinformatics.
B.Sc. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary program that merges biology and technology, focusing on the application of living organisms and bioprocesses in various sectors such as engineering, technology, and medicine. The course covers a wide array of topics including genetic engineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and industrial biotechnology, providing students with the knowledge and skills to drive innovation in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and environmental conservation. Graduates can pursue careers in research and development, quality control, clinical research, and bio-manufacturing, or continue their studies with advanced degrees in biotechnology or related fields.
M.Sc. Biotechnology is a postgraduate program designed to deepen students' understanding of the advanced principles and applications of biotechnology. It delves into specialized subjects such as advanced molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and bioprocess technology, equipping students with the expertise required for cutting-edge research and innovation. The curriculum often includes practical lab work, research projects, and industry internships to provide hands-on experience. Graduates of M.Sc. Biotechnology are well-prepared for careers in research and development, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and environmental management, or can pursue doctoral studies for further specialization.
Certificate in Hydroponics and Mycological techniques
A certificate course in Hydroponics and Mycological Techniques offers specialized training in soilless farming and the cultivation of fungi. Fundamentals of hydroponic systems, nutrient management, and environmental control for efficient plant growth, alongside techniques for mushroom cultivation, including spawn production, substrate preparation, and harvesting. Through practical sessions and hands-on experience, participants gain the skills needed to implement sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. Graduates of this course can pursue careers in urban farming, commercial mushroom production, agricultural consultancy, and sustainable food production.
The thrust areas of research are Industrial Biotechnology,Nanotechnology, Enzyme Biotechnology, Fungal Biotechnology, Molecular Biology , Bioinformatics,Plant Pathology,Phytochemical analysis and therapeutic potential of Some Indian medicinal Plants.
